This entry isn't about the global pandemic. It's not about staying home this past year. It's not about the photo gigs postponed or canceled outright. It's not about having to ditch travel plans related to the series of books I've been working on for years.
It's not about so many people I know who died this past year, related to the pandemic - or not. It's not about the funerals or family celebrations we needed to miss. It's not about any of those things.
It's about a loss I suffered early on this year. Albeit insignificant in the grand scheme, it was devastating.
I lost my desire to take pictures.
The reasons-for aren't important. My cameras sat untouched for three months.
What pulled me out of my funk, what allowed me to resurrect my excitement over capturing moments through my lenses were some words uttered by a friend of mine.
"Don't be ridiculous."
Those three words and more were balm to my soul. Her simple email message became a moment of grace for me.
The stone blocking my way out was removed. I was freed.
Saturday night, as I join the worshippers at our Easter Vigil celebration, my voice will be among the loudest as we join to Sing the Song of Freedom during the Exodus reading. It will also reinforce to those around me that my gifts are best shared through my lenses, and not with any of our choirs.
Have some fun today!
